About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The setup for these TEDx events can be relatively small with an audience of a maximum of 100 participants. TEDxOranjestadwomen which takes place May 28th at the Chamber of Commerce is an example of a small, yet impactful event. During this event, the international TEDWomen event will be live streamed in the room at the Chamber of Commerce. We are collaborating with TEDxOranjestadwomen and are very happy and proud that TEDx receives a very warm welcome on the island. The BIG inaugural TEDxAruba event is scheduled to take place September 23rd and we’ll be expecting 500 participants.

Theme: “Island of sustainable solutions”
In a world that has its set of challenges
we need people who speak up
and who can show us the way
to lead and create a wave of
positive vibrations.
At TEDxAruba we are happy
and humble to welcome
the thinkers and do-ers
who can teach and lead us.
Welcome to the island of sustainable solutions

Everybody knows Aruba as a pristine tourism destination, but the island also has the ambition to create and become a 100% sustainable society.
Aruba is doing that by creating a new economic pillar: A sustainable knowledge economy. Located at one of the best places in the world, Aruba acts like a hub between the America’s, Europe and the Caribbean region. Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and with its unique position has grown into a living lab on all levels of sustainable challenges and solutions.
The journey to a sustainable society is very inspiring and already has shown impressive results. With this momentum, Aruba creates the perfect place for established- and start-up companies to research and showcase their great ideas, find solutions for global challenges and share their expertise. The goal is to find creative ways to contribute to a sustainable society and eventually to the rest of the world.
About TEDxAruba

Via TEDxAruba we attract people and companies in the areas of Tech, Education and Design in order to share their sustainable concepts with Aruba, the region, Europe and the America’s. There’s going to be a nice mix of international and local speakers who will address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling. The speakers are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present their ideas in the most innovative and engaging ways they can.

The TEDxAruba mission, like the TED mission, is to propagate Ideas worth Spreading and Actions worth Doing; to inform and inspire. Our specific goal is to turn TEDxAruba into the Caribbean’s leading platform and pipeline for great ideas, storytelling, creativity, actionable innovation. In addition to this, our goal is to foster a sense of community amongst the people and organizations who have gathered (and will continue to gather) around this event and to provide a cultural driving force for conversation and action on how to create a sustainable society.
TEDxAruba is an independently organized event licensed from TED to official TEDx ambassador Jim Stolze and organized by the TEDxAruba Foundation. The members of the board of this foundation are Elton Arends (Chairman), Michelle Wever (Secretary) and Antoine Lobato (Treasurer). An important role will be played by the advisory board, in which representatives from the fields of Technology, Education and Design will help identify speakers and give input and feedback on the program of TEDxAruba. The advisory board will be chaired by Dutch Astronaut Andre Kuipers who is a regular visitor of Aruba and has contributed to multiple TEDx events in the Netherlands.
Together with a network of fellow thinkers and do-ers and long time collaborators, this team has put together a platform and pipeline for the spreading of (Aruban) sustainable ideas, solutions, creativity, innovation and culture to the rest of the world.

Prior to TEDxAruba 2015, on- and offline marketing & PR will be used to promote this event worldwide. The TEDxAruba Foundation has partnered up with Sublime FM, a popular Dutch radio station with more than 360.000 unique weekly listeners. Sublime FM focuses not only on music, but also on inspiring news. This segment in their programming is called ‘Sublime News’. During this segment they focus on inspiring items about innovation, development and the economy, not only in The Netherlands, but worldwide. In the upcoming months leading towards the conference, Sublime FM will be sharing on the Dutch radio detailed information about TEDxAruba in terms of content, speakers and partners.

The team also partnered up with the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) who will support and distribute information and news about the TEDxAruba event through its international offices in 11 markets.  Divi Resorts also partnered with the organizing team and amongst other commitments, will offer lodging for the international speakers.  Bureau of Innovation of the Ministry of General Affairs, Sustainable Development, Innovation and Science is also partner of the event. They see the importance of events like TEDxAruba to achieve the next level in creating a sustainable society.
The University of Aruba partnered with TEDxAruba and will share their knowledge and network in order to intensify the efforts to attract great speakers for TEDxAruba. The rector of the University of Aruba, Mr. Glenn Thode mentioned that the UoA is organizing their own TEDxUniversity event. TEDxAruba committed to a ‘Young Talent Award’ and the best speaker of TEDxUniversity will speak at TEDxAruba.
TEDxAruba will be live streamed on different locations worldwide. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed their partnership and support and will facilitate live streaming events at all the Dutch embassies in the world.
The recordings of TEDxAruba will be made available to the world via our Youtube channel. TEDx talks on Youtube have millions of views and TED talks have reached over a billion views.
Venture capitalists and investors are very much attracted to TEDx events in general and TEDxAruba in particular which offers huge opportunities for funding and financing of great plans presented by TEDxAruba speakers.
TEDxAruba 2015 will take place at on the property of the former JFK Technical School. This is the perfect symbolic location for such a fabulous event.  TEDxAruba will re-use, in very creative and innovative ways, the old ruins of Aruba’s first vocational technical school, to give the ideas and actions shared during TEDxAruba, a permanent place towards the future.
Experience it yourself on the 23rd of September, 2015
